Former Patterson Resident Died Last Week in Des Moines
James E. Carter, a native of Patterson and long-time resident of Indianola, died on Wednesday of last week at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines after a brief illness. Death was due to a heart ailment. He was 64 years of age.
Mr. Carter had been section foreman of the Rock Island railroad at Indianola for the past 35 years. He was born at Patterson, the son of James and Tabitha Carter, and reared in that community.
He was married to Anna Close, and they were the parents of three children, the present Mrs. Dorothy Link of Harris, Ill., Paul Carter of Indianola, and Joseph Carter now of the U.S. Army. The wife and three children survive. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Alma Carnagan and Mrs. Ethel Carter, both of Des Moines.
Funeral services were held last Thursday from the Orr Funeral home in Des Moines, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
