Long-Time Resident of This County Succumbs to Heart Attack
Walter J. Comp, widely-known Douglas township farmer for many years, died Monday at the Mercy hospital in Des Moines, following a heart attack. He was 67 years of age.
Mr. Comp was born in Jackson township on April 6, 1877, the son of Joseph and Savilla Comp. As a young man he was married to Gertrude Webb. They spent their married life on a farm in Douglas township until three years ago, when they retired and moved to Des Moines.
Mr. Comp is survived by his wife; a son, Pvt. Raymond Comp of Camp Claiborne, La.; a daughter, Mrs. Dave Hartsook of Des Moines; two grandchildren; and three brothers, Will and Frank Comp of Winterset and Ira Comp of St. Charles.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2:30 p.m. from the Winterset United Presbyterian church, in charge of Rev. W. W. Orr, pastor of Westminister church in Des Moines, and the Rev. W. P. Gordon of the Winterset church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
