Long-Time Resident of This Community Was 81 Years of Age

George M. Shoemaker, a resident of Madison county since 1879, died here on Wednesday of last week. He was 81 years of age.

Mr. Shoemaker was born near Rushville, Ill., on Sept. 2, 1862, the son of John and Mary Jane Shoemaker. In 1879 the family came to Iowa and settled in Madison county. For many years he engaged in farming in this county.

He was married Nov. 4, 1883, to Orlena Wilkinson, who survives him. They were the parents of 11 children. Two sons preceded the father in death. They were William Shoemaker, who gave his life for his country in World War I, and Clarence Shoemaker, who died three years ago.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by nine children: Curtis Shoemaker of Somera, Mont., Carl Shoemaker of St. Charles, Ralph and Glenn Shoemaker of Winterset, Dr. Don Shoemaker of Chicago, Jane and Ruth Shoemaker at home, Mrs. Muriel Freeman of Winterset and Mrs. Minnie Foster of Mapleton, Minn.

Funeral services were held last Friday from the Winterset Church of Christ, in charge of the Revs. L. F. Davis, and Tom Foglesong. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

George M. Shoemaker, resident of Madison County for sixty-four years, died on Wednesday, May 31, at the age of 81 years.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 2, at the Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Tom Foglesong and Rev. L. F. Davis conducted the service. Pallbearers were Raymond Vance, Will Johnson, Walter Foreman, Ralph Mills, Edward Benson, and Ray McConley. Music was furnished by Mrs. Myrtle Clark and Mrs. Thursaday Johnson, accompanied by Mrs. Tom Foglesong. Interment was made in the Winterset Cemetery.

George Morgan Shoemaker, son of John and Mary Jane Shoemaker, was born near Rushville, Illinois, on September 2, 1862. In 1879 his family came to Iowa and settled in Madison county.

He was married on November 4, 1883, to Orlena Wilkinson, and they were the parents of eleven children. One son, Clarence, died three years, and William, who gave his life in the World War I. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, five sons, Curtis of Somera, Montana; Carl of St. Charles; Ralph and Glenn of Winterset; and Don of Chicago, Illinois; four daughters, Jane and Ruth of the home; Mrs. Muriel Freeman of Winterset; and Mrs. Minnie Foster of Mapleton, Minnesota; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
