SELWYN KOEHLER DIES AT 87 YEARS

Well-Known Retired Farmer Had Been Hospital Patient Two Years

Selwyn Koehler of Winterset, one of Madison county's most widely known retired farmers, died Saturday, May 21 at Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for more than two years. He was 87 years of age.

Mr. Koehler was a native of Ohio, where he was born at Frederickburg, in Wayne county, on Jan. 3, 1873. He was a son of Charles F. and Nancy Snyder Koehler.

He came to Madison county with his parents at the age of 3 years, and this community remained his home through his life, with the exception of two years in California.

He was married at Winterset on Dec. 24, 1895 to Minnie M. Mills. They were the parents of two sons and a daughter. The daughter, Mrs. Helen Rummelhart died in 1952. Mrs. Koehler also preceded her husband in death in 1958.

He leaves the two sons, George and Francis Koehler, both of Winterset; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Stella Walsh of Los Angeles and Mrs. Fausta Splane of Palm Springs, California.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Richards Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
