Mattie Eleanor Cochran Tucker of Macksburg died in Winterset Thursday, November 22, 1973, at the age of 89.
Mrs. Tucker was born in Grand River Township on March 13, 1884, the youngest child of Wesley and Elizabeth Hamblin Cochran, pioneers who had settled in the county in the 1850s.
Mrs. Tucker graduated from Macksburg High School in 1903 and attended Simpson College. She taught school in Madison County for several years.
She was united in marriage to James Ira Tucker at Winterset on October 8, 1908. They were the parents of nine children, all of whom survive; Ruth Tucker of Mason City, Iowa; Helen Walter of Boulder, Colo.; Dean Tucker of Winterset; Eleanor Wickstrand of Portland, Ore.; Kathryn Kyner of Boulder, Colo.; Blaine Tucker of Branson, Mo.; Keith Tucker of Hamilton, Mo.; Jean Perkins of Des Moines; and Max Tucker of Macksburg.
Twenty-one grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive, as well as a nephew, Ed Steele of Roswell, Ga. and many other nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter, seven brothers, and a sister.
She was a member of the Methodist Church of Macksburg, where services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25, with the Rev. Willis E. Grant presiding. Burial was made in Moon Cemetery at Macksburg.
