Long-Time Resident was 88 Years Old; Funeral on Wednesday
John L. Crawford, one of Madison county's oldest residents, died at a nursing home in Des Moines Sunday, where he had been the past year and a half. He was 88 years of age.
Mr. Crawford was born Nov. 9, 1855, the son of John and Mary Crawford. Most of his life was spent in Madison county. His active years were spent in farming, just southeast of Winterset. Recently, his home had been in Winterset.
He was married in 1886 to Ida Grout. She died on Dec. 23 of that year, after one child, a daughter, had been born to them.
In 1905 he was married to Susan Compton, who survives him. In addition, he leaves his daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Martin of Needles, Calif.; one grandson; a step daughter, Ida Gray of Winterset; and a sister, Mrs. Fred Alley of Missouri.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from Anderson's home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. L. F. Davis of Winterset. Burial was made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery here.
