Funeral services were held last Friday from the Zion Lutheran church in Dexter for Warrant Officer John A. Marsh, U. S. Army, whose death by drowning occurred June 6, 1971 near Earlham.
The Rev. Norman Luecht, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was made in the Dexter cemetery, with military honors.
Warrant Officer Marsh was a life-long resident of the Dexter community. He was born in Dexter May 2, 1950, and was 21 years of age at his death. He was a son of Robert and Fern Hadley Marsh.
He graduated from Earlham Community school in 1968, and attended Centerville Community college.
He joined the U. S. army Sept. 2, 1969. After basic training, he took his primary flight training at Ft. Wolters, Tex., and advanced flight training at Ft. Rucker, Ala. He was appointed a warrant officer in the U. S. army reserve on Oct. 19, 1970, as a rotary wing aviator. He had served with the 82nd Airborne division at Ft. Bragg, N.C., for the last seven months.
At the time of his death, he was home on furlough, at the expiration of which he was scheduled for duty in Vietnam.
He is survived by his parents; a sister, Mrs. Duane Smith of Lamont; two brothers, Richard and David Marsh at home; and his grandmother, Mrs. Henry Marsh of Dexter.
