John R. Kirk, 91, died of respiratory failure Dec. 21, 1998 at Winterset Care Center North.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset with Pastor Dwayne Henrichs officiating. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery. Visitatin will be held from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
John Kirk was born Sept. 12, 1907 in Clarke County to Frank and Margaret (Iiams) Kirk. He married Wilma McChesney Nov. 26, 1929 in Madison County. He attended Brush College in rural Clarke County and moved to Madison County in 1938. He moved to Winterset in 1974. John, a retired farmer, was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, four sisters and one brother.
He is survived by five sons, Raymond (wife Joyce) of Chariton, Benjamin (wife Virginia), Max (wife Sandra), Larry (wife Mildred) and Ronald (wife Ann), all of Lorimor; three daughters, Helen Powers of Winterset, Patricia Grandfield (husband David) of Lorimor and Barbara Waller (husband Bill) of Oskaloosa; one sister, Margaret Evison of Winterset; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice in Winterset.
