MRS. ELLA THOMAS PASSED LAST WEEK

Long-Time Resident Dies in Des Moines After Brief Illness

Mrs. Ella Thomas, a resident of Madison county since 1891, died on Wednesday of last week at the Des Moines General hospital after a short illness. She was 78 years of age.

Mrs. Thomas was the former Ella Hampton, daughter of Milton and Mary Hampton, and was born in Lee county on May 9, 1865. She was married at the home of her father near Pilot Grove on March 6, 1889, to George C. Thomas. In 1891, they came to Madison county, and in 1897 moved to the home near Blair Chapel in Webster township where the remainder of her life was spent.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas were the parents of five children, all of whom survive their mothers. Her husband died in 1937.

As a girl she had united with the Friend's church at Pilot Grove, where her father was a minister. After coming to Madison county she affiliated with the Early Chapel church, where she was a long-time member.

She is survived by the five children, Harry M. Thomas of Macksburg, Floyd J. Thomas of Winterset, Vern Thomas of Creston, Mrs. Howard Hammans of Winterset, and Dale H. Thomas of Palo Alto, Calif. She also leaves a brother, Edgar Hampton of Hollywood, Calif., a sister, Mrs. T. W. Hester of Newberg, Ore., 20 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Saturday with the Rev. A. R. Weed of Tingley and the Rev. W. M. Hartin in charge, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
