PINCKNEY NEELY OF WINTERSET DIES

Succumbs at Age of 84 Years at Winterset Hospital Wednesday

Pinckney Neely, a resident of Winterset the past 17 years, died at the Winterset hospital this Wednesday. Had he lived until next Sunday he would have been 85 years old.

Mr. Neely was born June 18, 1859, in Kewanee, Ill. He came to Murray, Iowa, when he was 10 years old, living there until he was married, in June 1883. He then moved to a farm north of Lorimor where he lived until coming to Winterset. His wife died here in 1942.

He was the father of 11 children, three of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by eight children, as follows: The Misses Vera and Florence Neely, at home, Mrs. Eldon Wilson of Winterset, Mrs. Clark Watkins of Grinnell, Mrs. Gertrude Smith of Lorimor, Mrs. Charles Gardner of Mingo, Ferol Neely of Alden, and Franklin Neely of Berkely, Calif.

Funeral arrangements had not been made as the Madisonian went to press.

LONG-TIME RESIDENT OF LORIMOR DIES

Pinckney E. Neely of near Winterset, died Wednesday, June 14, in the Winterset hospital at the age of nearly 85 years. He had been in failing health for several years and recently fractured his hip, causing his condition to become serious.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, June 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the Ramsey–Richards Funeral Home with Rev. W. A. Samp in charge. Interment was made at the Lorimor cemetery.

P. E. Neely was born near Kewanee, Illinois, on June 18, 1859, the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Neely. At the age of ten years he moved with his widowed mother and brothers and sisters to a farm near Murray, where he grew to manhood.

In June 1883, he was united in marriage to SarahE. Routh who preceded him in death August 31, 1942. To them were born eleven children; two sons, Samuel and Fred, and one daughter, Mrs. Forrest Jordan, preceded him in death. Most of his married life was spent in Lorimor community until 1927 they moved on a farm near Winterset.

He is survived by his six daughters, Mrs. Charles Gardner of Mingo, Mrs. Gertrude Smith of Lorimor, Mrs. Eldon Wilson of Winterset, Mrs. Clark Watkins of Grinnell, and Vera and Florence Neely of Winterset; two sons, Franklin Neely of Berkeley, California, and Ferol Neely of Alden; twenty-six grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
