MRS. ALICE TRAVIS Dies At 98 Years

Mrs. Eliza Alice Travis, member of a pioneer Madison county family and one of the oldest residents of the county, died last Thursday, Dec. 2, 1965, at the age of 98 years.

Mrs. Travis was the daughter of George A. and Elizabeth Rhodes Bird, and was born near Redfield March 27, 1867. Her father was a Civl War veteran. As a child she moved with her parents to Madison county. She was married here Feb. 25, 1885, to Thomas H. Travis of Peru. They moved to Kansas, where they spent eight years, returning to Madison county by covered wagon, and spending the remainder of her long life here.

She was a life-long member of the Methodist church

Mrs. Travis was the mother of seven children. The husband and four of the children preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, Donald C. Travis, Warren B. Travis and Elwood M. Travis, all of Winterset; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Kale Funeral home at Truro with the Rev. Earl Travis officiating. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

Service at Truro For Mrs. Travis, 98

Mrs. Eliza Alice Travis, widow of Thomas Travis, died at Winterset Thursday, Dec. 2. She was 98 years old and had spent nearly all of her life in the southeast part of Madison county.

Services were held at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro, Saturday, Dec. 4. A grandson, Rev. Earl Travis officiated at the services and burial was in the cemetery at Peru.

Mrs. Travis was born at Redfield, Ia., on March 27, 1867. Her parents were George and Elizabeth Rhodes Bird. Except for eight years when she lived in Kansas, her entire life had been spent in Madison county.

She was married to Thomas Travis at Ebenezer on February 12, 1885. Seven children were born to them, three of whom survive their parents. They are Donald C. Travis and Warren B. Travis of Winterset and Elwood M. Travis of Peru.
