MARGARET BROWNLIE MILLER, Sun City, Az.

Margaret Brownlie Miller died Wednesday, Nov. 2, peacefully at home in Sun City, Ariz., in the company of her daughters.

Margaret was born Aug. 29, 1919, in Winterset, Iowa, where she spent her formative years. After graduating from Winterset High School, she attended Tarkio College in northwest Missouri, and later worked as an executive secretary.

In the mid-1940s, she met Robert Dean Miller, and after a short courtship, they married in June of 1946 and continued their romance for more than half a century, until his death in 1999.

In January 1959, the Millers, with young daughters Marilee and Karen, decided to try their luck in the sunny, growing western city of Phoenix, Ariz. While continuing their careers, Margaret and Robert nurtured their family life, filled with love, commitment and unconditional support for their daughters. Along the way, Margaret became well-known for her fun-loving, hospitable personality that catered to all and was exclusive to none. She was active in the Scots of the West Valley/Sun City, Peoria Women’s Club, and Qadesh Temple No. 35, Daughters of the Nile, Sun City Nile Club.

Margaret was happiest around family — including her extended family of nephews, nieces and cousins. She loved to travel and treasured one of her final “expeditions” — a “ladies” tour of ancestral sites in the British Isles with her daughters and granddaughter in 2001.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Robert; her parents, John and Ida Brownlie; a brother, Robert Brownlie; and a sister, Martha Hauser.

Upon her final voyage, she leaves her two daughters, Marilee Miller of Washington, D.C., and Karen Estes of Glendale, Ariz.; son-in-law, Edward Estes; granddaughter, Megan Estes; and sister, Mary Hindman of LaPorte City, Iowa.

Services were held Nov. 8 in Sun City, Ariz.
