Operated Food Store on West Filmore Street for About 10 Years
Fred A. Rogers, operator of a grocery store in Winterset for many years, died at his home here last Friday after a long period of failing health. He was 75 years of age.
Mr. Rogers was born in Spivey, Kan., on Jan. 7, 1871. He was married at Minneapolis, Minn., Oct. 2, 1894, to Bertha Rockwood. They were the parents of one daughter, the present Mrs. Myrl Penley of Winterset.
He was married about 1917 to Frances E. Lockwood. She died in 1945.
Mr. Rogers came to Winterset in 1919, and for 16 years served as engineer at the Winterset light and power plant. After that, for about 10 years, he operated a food store on West Filmore street.
He was a member of the Adventist church, the local Masonic lodge, and O.E.S. and formerly was affiliated with the I.O.O.F.
He is survived by his daughter and one grandson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. L. F. Davis of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
