Marvin H. Townsend, 89, of Winterset and formerely of Garner, died July 15, 2004, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset from complications of pneumonia and a stroke.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, July 19, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Celebrant Father Michael Schuller officiating. Burial was at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Garner.
Marvin Townsend was born Sept. 16, 1914, to Miller and Sophia (Rose) Townsend of rural Britt. His marriage to Lucille Yegge took place April 12, 1950, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. Marvin worked as a paint and body technician at Britt, Mason City and Forest City. He also worked for the government as a county corn bin superintendent, retiring in the late 1960s. Following retirement, he worked part time building grain elevators. He was a 50-year member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Alvin Townsend; a sister, Virginia Yaekel; and one grandson, Michael Hubbard.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille, of Winterset; two daughters, Vicoria Wagner of Ankeny and Trish Hubbard of Winterset; a sister, Lucille Roe of California; and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
