SERVICES HELD FOR FORMER RESIDENT

Funeral services for Newt Newell, a former resident of Madison county, who died Saturday at his home in Howard, Kan., were held this Wednesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset.

The Rev. Tom Foglesong of the Church of Christ conducted the rites. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Newell was born in Madison county Feb. 2, 1869, and spent his life here until about 25 years ago.

His nearest surviving relatives are his wife and a son.

NEWTON NEWELL BORN IN LINCOLN TOWNSHIP

Newton Newell, whose death at Howard, Kan., on Nov. 17 was reported here last week, was a native of Lincoln township in this county, where he was born Feb. 2, 1869.

He was the youngest son of J. R. and Martha Newell, and his early life was spent in the Ord neighborhood. In 1889 he married Nannie Long, who had been reared in the J. A. Macumber home. Death ended this marriage in 1892 when his wife died.

On March 12, 1906, he was married to Sarah Allen Hartsook. They had no children but in 1917 they adopted Phillip Lyon.

Mr. Newell was a farmer by occupation. In 1911 he moved to southern Arkansas, and three years later to Howard, Kan., where they had since made their home.
