Russell L. Kerns, Winterset

Russell Lynn Kerns, 57, of Winterset died of cancer Dec. 6, 1999, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Pastor Greg Sharp officiating. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery with a Masonic graveside service performed by Evening Star Lodge 43 of Winterset. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, Dec. 8) from noon to 8 p.m. with the family present from 7-8 p.m.

Russell Kerns was born Nov. 12, 1942 to Verlin and Fern (Bond) Kerns of Winterset. A 1961 graduate of Winterset High School, he spent most of his life in Madison County. He married Madelyn Wenck in 1968 in Osceola. Russell formerly owned and operated Kerns Monument Sales. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Winterset and New Hope Christian Union Church of rural Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

He is survived by his mother of Winterset; his wife; two sons, Scott Kerns of Phoenix, Ariz., and Marty Kerns (wife Jennifer) of Winterset; three brothers, Merle Kerns of Macksburg, Gerald Kerns of Murray and Ron Kerns of Winterset; one sister, Delores Henderson of Winterset; and one granddaughter.
