Maurice James Kerns, 74, of Pahrump, Nev., died May 31 1996 of cancer. Burial was at Skull Valley in Arizona.

He was born May 18, 1922 in Macksburg and had attended school in rural Madison County until graduating from Lorimor High in 1940. He married his childhood sweetheart, Marjorie Henry on Feb. 7, 1941. The couple lived in Lorimor several years before moving to Bagdad, Ariz. 31 years ago. He was a heavy equipment operator at the Bagdad Copper mines until his retirement when he moved to Pahrump, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his father; one infant brother; and one grandson.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Marjorie Kerns; four daughters, Judy and Penny of Arizona, Marcia of Pahrump and Kathlyn of White Mountain, N.C.; his mother, Fern Kerns of Hawkeye; one sister, Dolores Henderson of Hawkeye; four brothers, Ron Kerns and Russ Kerns of Winterset, Gerald Kerns of rural Murray and Merl Kerns of Macksburg; and several grand and great-grandchildren.
