Masonic graveside services for Byron C. Tollinger, 84, Van Meter, who died Sept. 28, 1983, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, were held on Friday, Sept. 30, at the Resthaven Cemetey in West Des Moines.
Born at Afton, he had lived in the Van Meter area for 40 years and had earlier lived in Winterset and Des Moines. He retired in 1962 and was a farmer and machinist for Meadows Transfer Jobbers Supply. He was the son of William and Dora Tollinger and on Oct. 11, 1918 was married to Nellie Travis.
He was a 60-year member of Pioneer Masonic Lodge and a past worthy patron of the Winterset chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Besinger of Red Oak, two granddaughters, a step-granddaughter and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son and daughter-in-law.
