Helen Tolley, 82, of Winterset died of a stroke Aug. 27, 1998, at Madison County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 29, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Bob Epperson officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
Helen Tolley was born Jan. 22, 1916, in Meriden, Kan., to Claude William and Grace Elizbeth (Borden) Hope. She married Earl Edward Tolley in June of 1936 in Princeton, Mo. She was a resident of Winterset for approximately 21 months, having moved from Des Moines. Helen had been a foster grandparent since 1981 and was retired from Polk County United Way. She was a member of Pioneer Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by two sons, John Tolley of Des Moines and Ronald Tolley (wife Sherry) of Winterset; one brother, Leland Hope (wife Mary) of Winterset; two sisters, Dorothy Knight (husband Charles) of Winterset and Irene McCollom of Davenport; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
