Page 1, Column 4Mae Alice Buck, daughter of William and Mary Thomas Buck, was born August 7, 1866 in Johnson county, Iowa, and passed away at her home in Chillicothe, Illinois, May 15, 1943 at the age of 76 years, eight months and 16 days. She was educated in the public schools of Johnson county and studied music in the State University of Iowa Music School in Iowa City, Iowa.
On February 16, 1886 she was united in marriage to Millard Fillmore McKray of Johnson county, Iowa. Their first home was at Hancock, Iowa. After two years they moved to their farm home near Atlantic, Iowa. In 1904 they moved to their farm home near Earlham, where they resided until 1928 when they moved to Earlham and lived there until the death of her husband in 1934. Since then she has made her home in Chillicothe, Illinois.
To this union were born three daughters and two sons. They are: Nella, wife of Howard Hickman of Earlham; Lloyd, who preceded his mother in death in 1935; Ethel, Opal, and Clees of Chillicothe, Illinois. She is survived by her four children, a son-in-law Howard Hickman, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, Charles O. Buck and Herbert Buck of Iowa City, Iowa, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McKray was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Earlham.
Mrs McKray was an accomplished pianist and she began the musical training of all her five children. She was always deeply interested in the welfare of her home and the education of her children. She was a devoted wife and mother and an ever ready friend and neighbor.
Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church on Monday afternoon by Rev. Peter Bock assisted by the pastor Rev. S. R. Overholser. The body laid to rest by her husband in the Earlham cemetery.
