Wednesday, November 8, 1944Pvt. Floyd E. McLarnand of Winterset was killed in action while fighting with the American army in France on Sept. 20, according to word received recently by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. McLarnand, now of Orient.
Private McLarnand was serving with an infantry regiment in France. He had previously been reported as missing in action.
The soldier was a life-long resident of Madison county. He was born in this county on Sept. 8, 1910, and was 34 years of age at the time of his death. He attended the Winterset public schools. He spent his early manhood on the farm in Monroe township, with most of his time spent as a keeper of bees.
He was inducted into the army from Madison county on March 18, 1941, and served in this country for about three years, in various states, before being sent overseas last May. He previously had served an enlistment in Winterset's headquarters company, 67th, Infantry brigade, of the Iowa National Guard.
Private McLarnand is survived by his parents; two brothers, Albert McLarnand of Milo and Wallace McLarnand of Orient; and three sisters, Mrs. Vera Kirkland of Orient, Mrs. Dorothy Cameron of Greenfield; and Mrs. Waunita Linn of Scranton.

Wednesday, September 19, 1945Pvt. Floyd E. McLarnand of Monroe township, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank McLarnand, who was killed in action near Nancy, France, on Sept. 20, 1944, was buried in the U.S. military cemetery at Andilly, France, according to word received by his parents here.
The information was received in a letter from an army chaplain. He said that Private McLarnand had been killed instantly when struck by enemy fire. He was buried in Grave No. 2 of Plot F of the Andilly cemetery, with full military honors, and a protestant chaplain officiating.
