Clarence W. Hooper Dies

Clarence Hooper, a resident of Madison county, for a number of years, died at the hospital at Oakdale, Sunday, May 24th, after an extended illness with tuberculosis. He was thirty-six years of age. The body was brought here, and funeral services were conducted at Tidrick’s funeral home, Tuesday afternoon, May 26th, by the Rev. Paul Hann, assisted by the Rev. W. C. Porter, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

The deceased was a son of W. L. and Fena Hooper, and was born in Guthrie county, May 18, 1895. When 11 years of age, he came with his parents, and they resided on a farm near Winterset. Later they moved to a farm near Dexter, and here he was married to Bessie Barr, on February 27, 1919. They are the parents, of three children, Irene, Clifford and Lawrence. Mr. Hooper was in the general delivery business here, for seven years, but after his health failed, they moved to a farm near Saint Charles, and later to Colorado, but his health did not improve and they returned to Winterset, last September.

He is survived by his wife and children, his parents, and a grandmother, Mrs. Anna Anderson of Des Moines.

Clarence W. Hooper

Clarence William, son of W. L. and Fena Hooper, was born in Guthrie county, Iowa, March 18, 1895. He lived with his parents on farms in Guthrie and Dallas counties until they came to a farm near Winterset when he was 11 years of age. They lived near Winterset for several years where he attended the rural school and later the school in Winterset.

When he was grown to manhood he went with his parents to a farm near Dexter, Iowa, where he was married to Bessie Barr, of near Winterset, on February 27, 1919. To this union three children were born, Irene, Clifford and Lawrence. After their marriage they lived on a farm south of Stuart, Iowa, and then moved to Winterset, where he was in the general delivery business for seven years. After his health failed they moved to a farm near Saint Charles and later spent several months in Colorado, but his health did not improve and they returned to Winterset last September.

As a boy Clarence was honest and faithful. He enjoyed attending Sunday school and had no bad habits. As a man, one of his many fine traits of character was his trustworthiness and faithfulness. Every one he worked for always trusted him and depended upon him and he gave his best always.

He has been confined to his bed for several months where he was a patient sufferer and passed away on May 24, 1931, at the age of 36 years.

He leaves besides his wife and children and mother and father, his grandmother, Mrs. Anna Anderson of Des Moines, other relatives and many friends.

The funeral service was held in Tidrick’s funeral home Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 1931, conducted by the Rev. Paul Hann assisted by the Rev. W. C. Porter, and the burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
