Claudius Ellsworth Nicholson, long time resident of Winterset died early Tuesday, May 24th, 1955, at the Peterson Nursing home at the age of 83 years. He had been in poor health for the past year, and seriously ill the past few weeks.
Mr. Nicholson was a son of Thomas Benton and Sarah Brittain Nicholson, pioneer Madison county residents. He was born November 17, 1871 at DeSoto and came to Winterset with his parents when he was 7 years of age. He was in the Livery business in Des Moines for twenty years when he was a young man and since then Winterset has been his home.
Survivors are a sister and a brother, Mrs J. W. (Ada) Bunker of Winterset, and Lyle Nicholson of Des Moines. He also leaves three nieces, Mrs. Merritt Matteson of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Mrs. Robet Speer of Billings, Montana, and Mrs. Harvey Davis, who resides near Macksburg, Two brothers, Emory and Joe Nicholson preceded him in death.
The Rev. W. W. Steinmetz will conduct his funeral services at the Anderson Home for Funerals, Thursday afternoon, May 26th, at 2 p.m. and burial will be in the Winterset cemetery.
