Alonzo S. Nelson died Sunday evening, February 1, at the Winterset hospital. He had been at the hospital for five days for treatment. He was 81 years old.
He had been making his home close to his son, Otto Nelson of near Barney. His son and Mrs. Nelson survive him.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 o’clock at Tidrick’s funeral home by the Rev. Glenn Marshall of the Church of God near Barney. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. A more complete account will be found next week in the mortuary column.

Alonzo Stewart Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gordon Nelson, has passed beyond the portals of time to the Great Beyond. He was born Oct. 6, 1849, in Warren county, Illinois. He passed away at Winterset hospital, Winterset, Iowa, February 1, 1931, at the age of 81 years, 3 months, and 26 days.
On April 15, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Viola Fuller at Monroe. To this union were born 5 sons and 1 daughter: Lewis, Gertrude, George, Charles, Otto, and Porter.
He leaves to mourn his death, the widow, a faithful companion for more than 55 years. The daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Farrow of Los Angeles, Calif., the sons: George, Otto of Barney, and Porter of Kansas City, Mo., Lewis and Charles, having preceded him in death. Eight grandchildren and three brothers, James of Minneapolis, Minn., Porter and William of Pasca, Washington, besides many friends and neighbors.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson, many years ago, united with the Friends church.
