Katie Louella Young, daughter of John W. and Eliza Young was born in Winterset, Iowa, December 14, 1863. Her girlhood was spent in Winterset and she was married here to John J. Keefe, May 4, 1884. Four children were born to them, Everett, who died in 1914, Thomas Keefe of Long Beach, California, Mrs. Bertha Hartman of Des Moines and Mrs. Kathryn Smith of Winterset.
They continued to make their home in Winterset except for one year spent in Colfax, Iowa, until the death of Mr. Keefe in October of 1907. Soon after that Mrs. Keefe removed to Des Moines where she made her home until four years ago when she went to Long Beach, California.
She became a member of the Pythian Sisters in Winterset many years ago and was an active member until she removed to Des Moines and transferred her membership to the Excelsior Temple there. She was active in their lodge, acting as pianist for many years.
She united with the W. R. C. while in Winterset and later transferred her membership to Long Beach. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
Here was a sunny happy nature and she was continually scattering sunshine until she became sick a few months ago and passed away after much suffering on January 22, 1931 at the age of 67 years.
She leaves besides her children four grandchildren and one brother, Thomas Young of Long Beach, California.
Rev. Paul M. Fowler conducted the funeral services, Monday, February 2, at 2 o’clock from Tidrick’s funeral home, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
