Death of Manford Erasmus Seevers

Manford E. Seevers, a long time resident of Madison county, died at his home in Jackson township, Saturday morning, January 3. Mr. Seevers had been in poor health for some time but his condition was not regarded as serious. He died while he was sitting at the breakfast table. He was 79 years of age. The deceased was a son of Mr. And Mrs. George W. Seevers, and was born in Oskaloosa, October 14,1851. He came to this county in 1864, with his parents, and has resided here most of the time, since then.

He first resided for seven years, on a rented farm in Douglas township. Then he resided for two years, in southwestern Missouri. For four years, he was in the state of Washington, but in 1894 he returned to Madison county, and has since made this community his home. It is stated that he resided on the farm in Jackson township for 43 years.

The marriage of Mr. Seevers and Miss Olive Leach, took place in 1884 and they were the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Virgie McCorkle of Jackson township and Mrs. Aletha Peterson of Moline, Illinois, who with the mother survive him. He also leaves two grandchildren, Mrs. Aaron Howell, and Kenneth McCorkle, two brothers, Perry Seevers of Califonia and Omer Seevers of Florida.

The Rev. A. R. Weed conducted his funeral services, Monday afternoon, January 5th, at West Star church, at 2:00o’clock, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Manford Erasmus Seevers

Manford Erasmus Seevers, son of George and Mary Seevers was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, October 14, 1851, the third of a family of eight children. He came with his parents to Madison county in 1864. On January 17, 1884 he was united in marriage to Miss Olive Leach. To this union two daughters came to gladden their home. He has lived on the farm in Jackson township forty-three years. He passed peacefully away on January 3, 1931 at the age of 79 years, 2 months, 19 days.

He was a loving husband and a kind father, a friend to all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Virgie McCorkle of Earlham, Aletha Peterson of Moline, Illinois, two grand children, two brothers, Perry of California, Omer of Florida and a host of friends.
