Nona Ann Jordan Died at University Hospital in Iowa City.
Tragedy again struck the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jordan of near Winterset Friday when their 6-year-old daughter, Nona was fatally burned as her dress caught fire at the kitchen stove.
The little girl had climbed on a chair at the stove, and was stirring a kettle of food cooking there, when the flames from the burner ignited her dress. Her mother, who was nearby, rushed in and tried to pull off the dress, but she received severe burns, particularly about the head and face. She was rushed to Memorial hospital in Winterset for emergency treatment, then taken to the State University hospital at Iowa City. But the flames had seared the interior of her throat and lungs, inflicting fatal injuries which caused her death Saturday.
The little girl had been a polio victim at the age of 2 years, and had been on crutches for several years. But she had been making considerable progress and recently was able to discard the crutches.
Nona Ann Jordan, was born at Winterset Nov. 1, 1956, daughter of Forrest Lee and Viola A. Warn Jordan. Her short life was spent in this community where, with her parents, she attended the First Methodist Church of Winterset.
In addition to her parents, she leaves two brothers, Gail, aged 12 and David, aged 10. She also leaves her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Jordan of Winterset and Mr. and Mrs. John Warn of Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the First Methodist church of Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John C. Porath. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
