1948WILLIAM F. JONES DIED HERE MONDAY
Was Veteran of More Than 30 Years' Service in Regular Army
William F. Jones, a resident of Winterset since 1938, died Monday March 28, at the age of 63 years.
Mr. Jones was a native of Jay county, Indiana, where he was born Sept. 15, 1885, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Jones. Most of his active life was spent in the U. S. Army. He retired from service in 1938 after 30 years with the 14th Cavalry regiment. He came to Iowa in 1918, and was stationed at Ft. Des Moines.
He was married to Ocein Cooper in Winterset Dec. 2, 1937, and they came to Winterset in 1938.
He is survived by his wife; a sister, Mrs. John Carlson of Hawaii; and seven step-children, Mrs. John Lutz of Des Moines, Mrs. Charles Clark of Dexter, Mrs. John Atkins of Newton, Mrs. Clarence Lucas of Winterset and Alvin, Wayne and Emory Cooper of Winterset.
Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Anderson's funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Don Worden of the Winterset Baptist church. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
