Marjorie Jones, Davenport

Marjorie B. Jones, 80, of Davenport and formerly of Earlham, died July 14, 2005, at Manor Care Health Services in Davenport.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 19, at Bear Creek Friends Church in rural Earlham.

Marjorie Jones was born Aug. 9, 1924, to Fred and Mabel (Powell) Smith of Motor. She was a graduate of Indianola High School and attended William Penn College. She also was a 1969 graduate of Drake University. On Aug. 5, 1945, she married Claire E. Jones of Earlham. Marjorie taught school first in country schools then for many years in the Earlham Community School District, retiring in 1980. She was involved in the Bear Creek Friends Church, teaching Sunday school for many years. She also led Bible studies for friends and neighbors and supported the OMS International and other mission organizations.

She is survived by her husband, Claire, of Davenport; one son, Fred Jones of Kingfisher, Okla; three daughters, Gaynelle Kirkberg of Davenport, Marilee Savage of Winona, Ohio, and Marla Cole of West Des Moines; a sister, Delores Jones of Earlham; and 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Bear Creek Friends Church or OMS International.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham.
