Leonard Henry Thurman, Jr., 53, of Fremont, Neb., died Tuesday, Jan. 27, at his home.
The son of Leonard and Thelma (Iiams) Thurman, Leonard was born July 12, 1944, in Omaha, Neb. Following graduation from Omaha Tech High School in 1962. Leonard served in the Marines and Vietnam War until 1965. The same year, Leonard married and the couple had three children. On June 20, 1973, Leonard married hs second wife, Geraldine McDaniel, and adopted her three children. Leonard was employed by I.B.P., Stormor, Fremont Mall and Magnus Metal, where he worked for 27 years. He was an active member of the Street Machines Unlimited, VFW and American Legion, Eagles, Fremont Volunteer Fire Department and was Boy Scout Troop 101 Scoutmaster.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jessica Hawkins and husband Charles of Mesa, Ariz., and Cynthia Thurman of Omaha; four sons, Leonard "Art" Thurman of Omaha, Michael and wife Michelle Thurman of Fremont, Kelvin "George" Thurman of Omaha and Kevin and wife Yong Sun Thurman of Navarre, Fla.; three sisters, Mildred (husband Willis) Carroll of Amarillo, Texas, Evelyn Love of Sherwood, Ark., and Beverly (husband Jim) Devening of Tekamah, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Fremont. The Rev. Larry Carr will officiate the 1 p.m. service. Interment of cremains will be at a later date.
