Funeral services for Thelma Iiams Thurman, 81, formerly of Murray, are being held Wed., May 27 at Murray Church of Christ with Pastor Steve Minkler officiating. Mrs. Thurman died May 23, 1992, at Memorial Community Hospital, Blair, Neb.
She was born April 18, 1911 in Madison County to Arthur and Florence (Kirk) Iiams and attended Madison Chapel and Madison County schools. She married Leonard Henry Thurman Sr. on November 26, 1930 in Osceola. She farmed with her husband from 1930 to 1939, moved to Osceola in 1939, to Omaha, Neb. in 1942, to Kearney Neb. in 1969 and to Tekemah, Neb. in 1990. She was active in the Red Cross during World War II, was in charge of the kitchen and nursery at Bemis Park Baptist Church in Omaha, Neb. and was a foster parent for Nebraska Children's Home frm 1957 to 1962.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and a great-grandaughter.
Surviving are three daughters, Mildred Carroll and husband, Willis, of Amarillo, Texas, Evelyn Love and husband, Bob, of Little Rock, Ark. and Beverly Devening and husband, Jim, of Tekamah, Neb.; a son, Leonard H. Thurman, Jr. and wife, Geri, of Fremont, Neb.; a twin sister, Velma Gibbons of Kress, Texas; a brother, Dale Iiams of Murray; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Burial is at Union Cemetery north of Murray.
