Mrs. James C. Steele of Macksburg, a resident of that community since 1901, died Monday, Feb. 10 at her home. She was 71 years of age. Mrs. Steele was the former Mabel C. Justice, daughter of James and Sarah Justice, and was born at Berwick in Polk county, on May 5, 1875.

As a young woman she attended Hyland Park college in Des Moines to study music, and for a number of years she taught that subject in the schools of her home community.

At the age of 27 years she was married to Mr. Steele. They made their home at Macksburg, where she had since lived. They were the parents of four children, one son dying in infancy.

In the early life she was a member of the Congregational church, but since about 1920 had attended the Macksburg Methodist church.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Edna Schutz, Mrs. Zelma Eivins, and Mrs. Alice Schutz, all of Macksburg; a brother, Frank Justice of Berwick; a sister, Mrs. Emma Hawkins of Seward, Alaska; and seven grandchildren.
