Edward S. Jones, oldest son of Elmer E. and Lillie Inman Jones, was born February 3, 1899 at Griswold, in Pottowattami County, Iowa and went to be with his Lord at the age of 87 years. His wife, Pauline, his parents, two brothers Orie and Melvin and a sister Effie preceded him in death.

Ed was united in marriage to Pauline Kipping March 1, 1921 at Redfield in her parents’ home. They farmed near Redfield until 1942 when they moved to a farm north of Earlham which was one of Ed’s early childhood homes. After Pauline’s death April 1977, Ed continued to maintain his home until October 1980 when he entered the Earlham Manor Care Center.

One daughter, Berneita, was born to them. Those who will especially cherish memories of him are his daughter, Berneita and her husband, Marion Patience, of Earlham, grandchildren, Ruth Santee of Perry, Rita of Spring Hill, Kansas, Lance and foster grandson Jeff of Earlham and great grandchildren Joy and Philip of Perry. A sister, Verda Pauls of Chillicothe, Missouri, several nieces and nephews and many friends will miss him.

As a child, Ed made Jesus Lord of his life and continued to walk with Him throughout the years. Ed was active in various departments of the Panther Creek United Brethren Church while they resided near Redfield and also in the Bear Creek Evangelical Friends Church after moving to Earlham. God blessed him with a talent for woodworking. Up until the time of blindness, Ed enjoyed using his talent to help at the church when remodeling or repairs were needed.

Ed loved his Lord and was well acquainted with his Bible. In later years while at the Care Center, he spent many hours listening to Christian radio broadcasts and tapes. He was particularly fond of music tapes and those of the Sunday worship services from Word of Life Christian Center at Winterset and visits with Pastor Dan. Ed’s saintly Christian spirit was a real inspiration to everyone who knew him and to all who cared for him.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 13, 1986 at the Word of Life Christian Center, rural Winterset, Iowa with Pastor Dan Perry officiating. Pianist was Pat Gibson. Pallbearers were Rollin Barnett, Verne Crabbs, Otha Cook, Eldon Coulter, Claire Jones and Charles Mendenhall. Interment was in Earlham Cemetery, Earlham, Iowa.

Professional arrangements by McKee Funeral Homes, Earlham and Dexter.
