Charles A. Thrailkill, the son of John Chester Henan and Carolyn Amanda Thrailkill, was born December 27, 1895 near Dexter. He died at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines on March 9, 1981.
Charles grew up in Madison County and graduated from the Earlham Academy. He served as a member of the Army during World War I.
On November 2, 1924 Charles was united in marriage to Myrtle Francis Boyle at the home of her parents south of Dexter. Charlie and Myrtle spent their life together farming in Madison County. In 1956 they retired to Earlham. Myrtle died October 29, 1979.
He was an active life member of American Legion Post No. 158 in Earlham.
Survivors include five children, Mrs. Mary Meyers of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, John and Wayne of Earlham, Mrs. Carol Claussen of Ogden, Iowa and Mrs. Helen Hallowell of Monument, Colo.; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Chester, Wayne, Ray and Maurice; four sisters, Nettie Howell, Tillie Heifner, Cora Hunter and Alice Bradshaw.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, four brothers, one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Thrailkill were held March 11, from the Earlham United Methodist Church, with Rev. Walter Sieck officiating. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.

Services were held at the Earlham United Methodist Church on March 11, 1981 at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Walter Sieck officiating.
Music was provided by Mrs. Gretchen Brittain, organist. Casket bearers were Dan Claussen, Steve Claussen, Dave Thrailkill, John A. Thrailkill, Ed Smith and Frank Padilla.
Interment was in the Earlham Cemetery.
Professional services were by McKee Funeral Homes of Earlham and Dexter.
