Florence M. Thornton, 95, died of a heart ailment Jan. 25, 2002, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.
Memorial services and burial of the cremains will take place at a later date.
Florence M. Thornton was born May 13, 1906, in Osceola to Clayborn and Dora (Wiley) Thornton. She was educated in the Osceola School District, graduating from Osceola High School in 1925. She began her career as a secretary at a law firm in Osceola. During World War II, Florence then worked as a secretary in Washington, D.C., for the United States government. In later years, she continued her service with the U.S. government in Des Moines and Clinton.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Osceola and C.W.F. (past president).
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Edith Thornton of Osceola; two nephews, Nelson Thornton (wife Mariann) of Winterset and Merrill Thornton (wife Lou) of Urbandale; and seven grandnephews and grandnieces.
Arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
