Ida Evelyn Thornburg, 71, of Patterson died of complications of a stroke Jan. 22, 1999, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 25, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with Father Ed Pfeffer officiating. Burial was at Montpelier Cemetery near Patterson.

Ida Thornburg was born March 24, 1927, to Jacobo and Lila (Casaus) Mares of Fort Sumner, N.M. She married Roy Raymond Thornburg on April 19, 1946, in Clovis, N.M. A homemaker, Ida was a resident of Patterson for 45 years, having moved from New Mexico. She also was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Ronald Thornburg (wife Linda) of Forest Lake, Minn., Richard Thornburg (wife Kathy) of Winterset, and Jerald Thornburg (wife Christy) of Earlham; one daughter, Patricia Bence (husband Mark) of Winterset; one sister, Mary Ann Melo of Albuquerque, N.M.; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
