Edgar L. Morse, 66, died of cancer Jan. 3, 1999, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Pastor Terry Kerr officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery (Webster township) near Macksburg with graveside services provided by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W Post 8142 of Winterset. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan.6, from noon to 8 p. m. with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.

Edgar Morse was born Oct. 27, 1932, in Madison County to William Craigue and Velda Mae (Hulbert) Morse. He married Ida V. Plunkett on April 14, 1953. A lifetime resident of Madison County, he was a retired farmer. He also was a self-employed meter reader for Farmers Electric of Greenfield for 13 years. Edgar was a veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He bred and raised registered quarter horses and was a night patrolman at the Madison County Fair for almost 20 years.

He is survived by his parents of Winterset; his wife, also of Winterset; two sons, Robert Morse (fiancée Ellie) of Lorimor and Leon Morse (wife Cherl)of Macksburg; two daughters, Vicki McGee (husband Tom) of Cresco and Virginia Robinson (husband Keith) of Winterset; one brother, Bill Morse Jr. (wife Mary) of Cedar Falls; one sister, Betty Johns (husband Jack) of Earlham; and four grandchildren.
