JONES FUNERAL HELD SATURDAY

World War I Veteran Is Buried in Winterset Cemetery

Funeral services for Alfred Jones, long-time resident of Madison county, were held Saturday afternoon, Aug. 1, from the First United Presbyterian church in Winterset.

Mr. Jones died July 29, at the U. S. Veterans hospital in Des Moines. He was 71 years of age.

The son of Alfred and Laura Walton Jones, he was born at Fontanelle, Ia., Aug. 10, 1892. He was married to Pearla Mitchell on Feb. 2, 1920, at Omaha, Neb.

He served as an infantryman in the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart.

He was a resident of Madison County for 40 years and worked as a stationary engineer in the Winterset municipal light plant.

He is survived by his wife; two son, Walter W. Jones of Baltimore, Maryland, and James A. Jones of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Paul Jones of Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Diers of Des Moines, Mrs. Marietta Dickey of Des Moines and Mrs. Electa Parkis of Portland, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Aletha Dickey; a brother, Jasper J. Jones; and a son, Roy R. Jones.

Officiating at the services Saturday afternoon, was the Rev. John E. Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church. Burial, with military graveside rites by the American Legion post, was in the Winterset cemetery.
