Ray Johnston Death Recorded

Raymond Johnston, a St. Charles resident and member of the St. Charles school board for several years, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 1977, at Villa West Care Center in Winterset. He was 87.

Mr. Johnston was the son of Samuel T. and Martisha Phipps Johnston, born June 15, 1890 in South township of Madison county. He was educated at Viney school in Madison County.

The marriage of Raymond Johnston and Ola Blanche Coltrane took place May 16, 1921 at Indianola. They had one child.

Mr. Johnston was a farmer and painter and was affiliated with the St. Charles Methodist Church.

Survivors include his son, Phillip of St. Charles; two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a step granddaughter and four step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, six sisters and a step daughter, Helen B. Caliguiri.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. from the St. Charles Methodist Church, Rev. Rolland Towell officiating. Burial was made at the St. Charles Cemetery.
