Mary Laurine Thorpe, 87, of Winterset died Jan. 9, 2005, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Jan. 12) at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastor Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
Mary Thorpe was born July 8, 1917, in Woodford County, Ill., to Julius W. and Nettie B. (Harris) Eckstein. She was a graduate of Winterset High School. On Dec. 8, 1956, she married Lamont “Monty” Thorpe in Lake View. A resident of Winterset for most of her life, Mary had been a homemaker, waitress and employee of Sargent Quarries. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a stepdaughter, Linda Marie Wenger; and three brothers, Lawrence, George and Lee Eckstein.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Huff of Winterset; one stepson, Larry L. Thorpe of Belize, Central America; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
