Death of Mrs. Henry Johnston

Mrs. Henry Johnston who has been ill for the past ten weeks, with what resembles creeping paralysis, died on Monday morning, about 8 o;clock. She was 56 years of age, having been born in McLean county, Illinois. Her name before her marriage was Sarah Lilly Nickerson.

In 1884 she was married to Mr. Johnston and in 1887 they came to this county, where they have since resided. For the past few years they have lived in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock. They were conducted by Rev. Willey, formerly pastor of the Christian church here, but now of Memphis, Mo.; and Rev. D. J. Shenton. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

She is survived by her husband and four children; Charles of Adel, Howard of Chicago and Mrs. Alice Radke of Chicago and Mrs. Hubert Fosher of Winterset.

Sarah Lilly Nickerson, daughter of Lavina B. and William H. Nickerson, was born in McLean county, Illinois, near Saybrook, on Aug. 23, 1867 and departed from this life Nov. 19, 1923 at the age of 56 years, 2 months and 27 days.

She was united in marriage to Henry R. Johnston on March 25, 1885. To this union were born four children: Charles L. of Adel, Mrs. Alice Radke and Mrs. Alma Fosher of Winterset and Howard A. of Chicago.

To mourn her death she leaves her husband and family; two brothers, Wm. H. Nickerson of Saybrook, Ill., and James A. Nickerson of Hannah, N.D.; and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Hunt of Saybrook, Ill., and Mrs.Rosa Claypool of Gilman City, Mo., besides other relatives and many friends.

In 1893 the family moved to Madison county, where they have resided since, the last seven years of which were spent in Winterset. Throughout her life her happiest moments were in lending a helping hand to others.

For several years she had been feeling poorly, until last August, when she began to fail fast and was taken to her bed Sept. 6th. She was conscious to the last and passed away Nov. 19th, at 8:15 a.m.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Willey of Baring, Mo., and Rev. Shenton of Winterset, at the M.E. church on Nov. 21st, and interment made at Rock City cemetery.
