RUBY THOMPSON, Winterset

Ruby Grace Thompson, 89, died of congestive heart failure May 30, 2002, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 1, at the Christian Church in Redfield with the Rev. Les Borsay officiating. Burial was at South Oak Grove Cemetery, Stuart.

Ruby Thompson was born June 11, 1912, to Clyde and Mary (Rhodes) Madren of rural Redfield. She received her education in the Redfield School District. On Jan. 14, 1929, she married Scott Thompson in Des Moines. In 1954, she started working for Diddy's Grocery Store in Redfield. In 1966, Ruby and her husband purchased the store, operating it until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of the Redfield Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter and two grandsons.

She is survived by three sons, Scottie Thompson (wife Madylene) of Paton, Bobby Thompson (wife Madeline) of Waukee and Vern Thompson (wife Rhoda) of Truro; two daughters, Darlene Chinberg (husband Robert) of Redfield and Judy Parker (husband Norman) of Jefferson; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great- grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter and Earlham.
