ORPHA THOMPSON, Dexter

Orpha Leora Thompson, 74, of Dexter, died Dec. 14, 1995 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were Dec. 18 at the Dexter Methodist Church. The Rev. Kathy Sides officiated the services and the cremains were buried at the Dexter Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 4, 1921 in Redfield to Charles E. and Lena B. (Keltner) Short. She married Leon 'Shorty' Thompson on April 18, 1939 in Redfield. She was a retired homemaker and a resident of Dexter since 1943. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Dexter; Methodist Women, Dexter Women's Auxiliary; and the Gold Star 50+ Year Member Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and sisters; one grandson and one granddaughter.

Surviving relatives include her husband of Dexter; one son, Robert Thompson of Des Moines; three daughters, Dorothy Cushman of Ankeny, Faye Watts of Stuart and Janice Cook of Winterset; one brother, Lavern Short of Reno, Nevada; one sister, Beullah Ehlers of Paradise, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
