Retired Plumber Had Lived Most of Life in Winterset
Walter Johnson, a resident of the Winterset community for most of his life, died Sunday April 11, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 76 years of age.
Mr. Johnson was a native of Adair county, where he was born May 17, 1888, a son of Marion and Melvina Taylor Johnson. With the exception of three years his life was spent in the Winterset community.
For many years prior to his retirement in 1958 he worked as a plumber here. He was a former member of the Odd Fellows lodge.
Mr. Johnson was married in 1910 to Lillie Welty. Her death occurred in 1918; and in 1947 he was married to Mrs. Myrtle McCants who survives him.
He also leaves two sons, Eugene Johnson of Reading, California and Melvin Johnson of Winterset; two step-daughters, Mrs. Grace Lamb of Winterset and Mrs. Hazel Hackley of St. Louis, Mo.; a grandson; a great grandson; two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Rex Johnson of Thayer; and a sister, Mrs. Nona Blair of Winterset.
Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. this Wednesday from the Collins Funeral home conducted by the Rev. William E. Bowles, pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
