William Charles Johnson, 68, of Winterset, died of a heart attack on Sept. 15, 1996 at his home. Funeral services will be held today, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Father Ed Pseffer will officiate and burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Stuart.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1927 in Stuart, to William Charles Sr. and Lillie (Egy) Johnson. He graduated from Stuart High School and on Jan. 2, 1950, he married Dorothy A. Compton in Stuart. He lived in Madison County for 45 years after coming from Stuart, and was a retired farmer. He served in the United States Navy, was a Farm Bureau member and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Surviving relatives include his wife of Winterset; two sons, Ben and Randy Johnson, both of Winterset; four daughters, Bonnie Moore of Boone, Susan Hamilton of Peru, Gloria Stadtlander of DeSoto, Sandy Norris of Winterset; three sisters, Catherine Mataya of Des Moines, Cecelia Schissel of Omaha, Neb. and Veronica Chance of Newton; and nine grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
