Howard Arnold Thompson, 85, of Winterset died of a heart ailment April 14, 2000, at Des Moines General Hospital.

A memorial service was held Monday, April 17, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Wayne Estell officiating. Burial of the cremains was at Roselawn Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn.

Howard Thompson was born March 29, 1915, to Theodore and Nellie (Felix) Tompson of Ellsworth. He married Marcella Menard on Nov. 20, 1937, in Minneapolis. A retired plumber, he was a resident of Winterset for the past two years, having previously resided in Minneapolis and McAllen, Texas. Howard was a past club member of the all-male choir "Senior Ambassadors" of McAllen, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a son. He is survived by two sons, Wayne Keith Thompson of Minneapolis and Howard A. Thompson (wife Bonnie) of Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Pamela Cordle (husband Dennis) of Savage, Minn., and Jacqueline B. Berg (husband Dick) of Minneapolis; a brother, Theodore J. Thompson (wife Leota) of Winterset; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
