Byron Johnson, Winterset

Services for Byron H. Johnson, 96, Winterset, who died December 30 at the Bethesda Care Center where he resided, were held Wednesday morning, Jan. 3, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clarence Lautt and the Rev. Zona Lautt officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born in Madison County on August 28, 1893, he was the son of Samuel and Victoria Hoisington Johnson. He was a farmer and had lived here since 1951, coming from Earlham. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset and the Farm Bureau of Madison County.

Mr. Johnson was married to Bessie Bowlsby on August 15, 1917 at Winterset.

Survivors include sons, Harold of Ankeny and Herbert of Fort Dodge; a daughter, Berdena Jones of Earlham; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers and three sisters.
