Betty Johnson, Winterset

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson, 86, of Winterset, died June 6, 2004, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Pastor Joan White and the Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Betty Johnson was born Oct. 8, 1917 in Minneapolis, Minn., to Frank Evans and Gertrude (Ilgenfritz) Wright. On June 8, 1940, she married Dwight G. Johnson in Kansas City, Mo. A homemaker, Betty had been a resident of Winterset since 1947. She was a member of Tri-L Club, P.E.O., Sweet Adelines, Christian Youth Fellowship, Covered Bridge Festival Organization and the First Christian Church in Winterset. She also was an honorary member of the Rebekah-Ruth Circle at First Christian.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Robert K. Wright; and a sister, Ruth Seward Norris.

She is survived by one son, Michael K. Johnson of Winterset; one daughter, Susan R. Funk of Hillsboro, Kan.; and three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church or Middle River Hospice, both of Winterset, or the National Parkinson's Foundation.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
