NATIVE OF COUNTY DIES AT 99 YEARS

Alonzo M. Johnson, a native of Madison county, died Jan. 9 at a hospital in La Junta, Colo., according to word received here this week.

Mr. Johnson was 99 years of age. Had he lived five more days he would have observed his one hundredth birthday.

Mr. Johnson was born in Madison county Jan. 14, 1861, a son of Charles and Elizabeth Markley Johnson. He farmed in Madison and Adair counties, then spent a year in Florida, then moved to Colorado where he worked at La Junta as a carpenter until his retirement.

He is survived by a brother, Alvin C. Johnson of Winterset.

Funeral services were held last Wednesday from the Peacock-Green Memorial chapel in La Junta, with the Rev. Dale Ammon, pastor of theFirst Presbyterian church of Las Animas, Colo., officiating. Burial was made in Fairview cemetery at La Junta.
