87-Year-Old R. W. THOMAS Dies

A native of Ottumwa, Iowa, Roy Willis Thomas, 87, died Tuesday, March 15, 1977 at Villa West Care Center in Winterset, where he was a resident since February 28 of this year.

Mr. Thomas was born March 10, 1890, at Ottumwa, the son of George Willis and Alice W. Snell Thomas. He was married on October 29, 1950, to Minnie B. Weese at Wilton Junction, Iowa. She survives her husband.

Employed as a caretaker at an apartment house, Mr. Thomas was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the American Legion at Woodburn, Iowa.

Survivors beside his wife include: five step-sons, William B. Weese of Athelston, Iowa, Herbert Weese of Winterset, Edgar Weese of Lenox, Kenneth Weese of Houston, Texas and Calvin Weese of Brigham City, Utah; four step-daughters, Jessie Norton of Willow Springs, Missouri, Edna Key of Blockton, Violett Woods of Lenox and Madolyn Loghrey of Osceola; and two sisters, Emma Neff of Ottumwa and Mary Burg of New Town, Arizona.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Roy Thomas were conducted Friday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. from Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with burial at the Winterset Cemetery.

Woodburn American Legion Post No. 157 provided military graveside services. Rev. Phill Hall of Winterset First Baptist Church officiated.
